IROICA Webinar
Webinar: “Academic support for refugees” – Wednesday 1 June 2022, 14:00-15:30 (CET)
The upcoming conference of IROICA will focus on inclusive mobility. One very particular part of this topic is the mobility of refugees and how universities can be a sanctuary for students and academics who suffer threats to their lives, liberty or well-being in their home country. This is at the core of IROICA, in our daily work and the guiding motives of IROICA: openness, human rights and democracy.
Therefore we are organizing a webinar on this important and very actual topic.
We foresee two speakers:
- Leona Binz from Scholars at Risk (SAR) will give an introduction to her organization. SAR protects scholars suffering grave threats in part by arranging positions of sanctuary at institutions in the SAR network for those forced to flee.
- Afterwards, Stefanie Kottowksi from the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) will introduce the scholarship programme “Hilde Domin Programme”. This programme serves to support students and doctoral candidates from across the globe, who are at risk of being formally or de facto denied educational or other rights in their country of origin, and to provide these students and doctoral candidates with an opportunity to begin or complete a study or research degree at a higher education institution in Germany.
Everybody interested in this topic can follow the webinar. For the colleagues who will attend the Conference as BIP-participant, this webinar forms an integral part of the BIP.
The registration deadline is extended until May 20th 2022.
